class=\"maxwidth\"><tbody><tr><th class=\"center nowrap\" scope=\"row\">Eligibility of applicants<\/th><td><p>Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span class=\"mark\">a.<\/span>Applicants must be citizens of ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), or Timor-Leste;<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span class=\"mark\">b.<\/span>Researchers must hold a Ph.D. or the highest academic degree in their field of expertise. Non-research professionals must have a total of seven or more years of work experience in a field related to their proposed research;<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span class=\"mark\">c.<\/span>Applicants must be in good health and proficient in either Japanese or English;<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span class=\"mark\">d.<\/span>In principle, applicants must be able to stay continuously in Japan for the term of the Fellowship.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><th scope=\"row\">Eligible Projects<\/th><td><ul class=\"list-dot\"><li>We are accepting applications for policy-oriented projects related to global common issues that should be jointly addressed by Japan, ASEAN and the international community.<\/li><li>Possible topics include climate change, disaster resilience, energy issues, economic security, maritime cooperation (e.g., maritime law), social and economic disparities, public health, AI, and urbanization; however, projects outside these categories can also be eligible if they meet the goals of the grant program.<\/li><\/ul><\/td><\/tr><tr><th scope=\"row\">Expected number of fellows and fellowsip period<\/th><td>A small number of Fellows will be invited to stay continuously in Japan for over 3 months up to a maximum of 12 months.<br \/>The proposed commencement date for a Fellowship must fall between June 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.<\/td><\/tr><tr><th scope=\"row\">Benefits<\/th><td><p><span class=\"mark\">(1)<\/span>One-time Benefits<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span class=\"mark\">a.<\/span>International Air Ticket: Round-trip discount economy-class airfare (the most direct route).
